Your Life as a Musical?

Your Life as a Musical?

A couple of weeks ago I watched the movie Across the Universe with hubby. I didn’t even realise a musical using Beatles melodies had been made. I enjoyed the way the song lyrics were used to tell a story about the people in the film. With the recent Mama Mia stage production and film, another production in the works using music by Billy Joel, I couldn’t help wondering if you’ve ever wanted to tell your own story using the lyrics from one particular artist or group.

Have a think about this one by spending time writing in your journal on this theme. I’m sure you have favourite music CDs you listen to over and over again. We all have music we strongly identify with. Which artist’s music would you use and which specific tunes would make it into your personal dramatisation? This is most likely a journal prompt to think about while listening to these CDs. So, go ahead pull these out and have a listen, write in your journal while the music plays. Work on this over a week or longer until you’re happy with your play list. Consider writing this up as a musical production.

I hope you enjoy this journal writing prompts. Please feel free to leave any comments in the section below.

This is very timely for me. I share a lot of music with my boyfriend and recently realized that a lot of songs I like tell something about a particular time in my life. So, I started collecting them with the intention of putting together a sort of musical biography. What a wonderful idea to use this as a journal prompt! THanks :)

    Hi Zura,
Well, that was great timing, then. I’ve often toyed with this idea myself, so was writing about it in my journal, too. So glad it worked in with you. Thanks for letting me know. ;-)
