Your Favourite Toy

Since visiting mum the little guy has been inundated with toys from all over the place. My brothers, mum’s friends, neighbours, whoever; everyone seems to have a toy or a book or something for the little guy to play with. One conversation held here recently had to do with favourite toys, in particular our favourites when we were little kids. I still have a little soft toy fox, Foxy; and my koala bear, Karla.
What was your favourite toy from childhood? Do you still own this/these toy/s? What condition is this toy in? Does it hold pride of place somewhere or is it stashed safely away somewhere? Write about some of the memories you have of this toy? Why does it mean so much to you? Try to describe how important this toy was when you were a child. If you like, write an unsent letter to this toy, especially if you no longer own it.
I hope you enjoy this journal writing prompt. Please share any comments in the section below.

a stuffed monkey. I actually still have it, even with the little tear marks it had when I was 5 and ran to my mom to put a bandaid on. A neighbor had ended up sewing it, I had seen stuffing come out of it. My 5-year-old daughter keeps him on her bed now. This toy went with me EVERYWHERE and was always on my bed, even in my teen years. It’s a comfort to see that it is still around and hanging out on yet another bed.

Thi is a great idea! I have quite a few of my childhood stuffies, some forty years later!!! I also still have a doll that belonged to my Mom, so I think it must be close to eighty years old. I treasure all of these as they all have some - at least one! - special memory attached to them. They are truly part of who I am.

Hi Bonny,
Yes, how true. I think these toys we have loved really are a part of who we are. How lovely to own something that was also treasured by your mother. Thanks for sharing about your toys. ;-)

Hi Eliza,
Thanks for sharing about your monkey. You’ve reminded me of a couple of monkey hand puppets my brother and I once owned. I’d love to know what happened to them. I’m please to read your monkey is still going strong and being loved. ;-)
