Working Things Out
I had an encounter today with a rather unpleasant individual. At the time I felt shaken and upset. Later I was able to spend a moment journal writing the incident. At first I was able to put my role in the event into perspective. I had felt the person was completely unreasonable and verbally attacked me for no reason. Of course, while feeling upset I began to think I must’ve contributed something to cause this reaction.
But the action of writing out the matter, while I was no longer hot with emotion, helped me see I had indeed done nothing to provoke this outburst. I was able to see how this person was probably having a bad day or life, whatever. This helped me put away any bad feelings I had about this person. I was able to simply let it go. The problem was obviously her own and had nothing to do with me. It was a shame I got in her way.
This is an example of how I use my journal to work things out. I could have held onto this experience and tried to figure it out in my head, which is what I was doing up until the moment I put it all in words. I hope this illustrates how powerful writing in a journal can be to keeping a balance about the little matters in life.
