Word Collecting
Another good idea for your writer’s journal is to keep a list of words that excite you. You can either designate a portion of pages for this or separate the pages into categories. I suggest a page on confusing words; a page for words with multiple meanings or homophones; a page with words you didn’t know or don’t know the meaning of until you looked it up; and another simply for those words you love.
The internet has an amazing array of websites addressing words. You’ll never be stuck for inspiration and places to research. But there’s nothing like developing your own resource. The list can be as organised or chaotic as you like. The only thing the list needs to do is provide you with words when you need them.
I hope you find these websites as useful as I do:

I get A.Word.A.Day delivered to my email… it includes a word, the definition, pronunciation (as an audio file), a contemporary quote using the word, as well a bonus, non-related quote. I save the good words and interesting quotes for journalling. Also a great resource for practicing calligraphy!
