What about the Weather?
I don’t know about you, but I find myself tracking the weather in my journal. There are days when I begin immediately describing the day. Of course, there are only so many ways to say that the sky is clear and blue. That can become the challenge and I find myself digging deep to come up with something original. But most of the days are not so perfect and I often have quite a time describing what I can see outside my window.
For me this exercise tends to ground me for the entry. I locate myself by defining where I am. Once I’ve sketched out my surroundings it’s easier to move onto my own thoughts, feelings and significant events.
But on really hot days, like yesterday, I find just the exercise of putting pen to paper a sticky one at best. I have to lean on another sheet of paper or napkin to prevent the moisture making my page difficult to write on later. I much prefer writing on chilly days where I have to curl in on my journal. This is much more intimate and has that cosy feel I love so much about writing.
What about you? What part does the weather play in your journal writing habits?
