Using Colour in Your Journal
Sometimes I naturally lean towards using a certain colour pen in my journal. At the moment I have little time for such things and rely on any pen I can lay my hands on. When I find a pen with good purple ink I will buy several so I can write in my favourite colour. I don’t worry my words may be purple prose, since I’m the only one reading them.
It’s a great idea to have several colours on hand to choose from. If you’re feeling angry and want to rant or vent in your journal select a colour you associate with those feelings to write them out on the pages of your journal. Choose another colour for when you’re feeling low and unhappy. And so on.
Even selecting a journal with different coloured pages is useful. You may want to make your own journal for this purpose. This way you can measure which emotion dominates when you’re writing in your journal.

I change the color pen I use in my journal every day. Each morning I pick whatever color appeals to me that day. There are days when I use a plain blue or black ball point pen, but those pens are typically “fun” pens. For example, I have a pen shaped like a dog bone, a pen with a money head on the end, several with different animals, some pens light up, you get the idea. I have a pen obsession so I have plenty of pens to choose from.
My journals are almost always plain white paper. There have been a few over the years that had pastel pages or even some designes, but it wasn’t something that I went looking for. Those journals just appealed to me at the time.

Hi Holly,
That’s a great idea; using a different colour each day. I love novelty pens, too. It’s a pity that most of the ones & would love to have just don’t write smooth, the way I’d like them to.
There are some gorgeous journals with coloured paper available now. Check out the photos of the Ciak journals on http://www.notebookism.com/2006/08/ciak.html. Very cool in my opinion.
