Thinking of Christmas
The other day, while writing in my journal, I started to think of Christmas time in my youth. Living in Australia brings different traditions to those known by many of you. The weather is hot, blazing hot most of the time. I recall Christmas as a time of sunburn, salty skin, barbeques, salad, long lazy afternoons and swimming, lots & lots of swimming. As a kid I think I lived in my togs; that’s the name for them where I come from in Australia. There are different words for them in other parts of the country.
But I think the memory that excited me most was that of feeling no responsibilities. The memory of no school, no hassles, no routine. It was just a time for fun. I suppose it matters little what the season is for those kinds of memories. I spent time writing how it felt to have no responsibilities outside of myself. It’s been a long time since I’ve felt that way. While I do love my family, etc, it felt great to rekindle those feelings. What better place for such escapism than in my journal.
Spend some time writing in your journal revisiting what it felt like to be free of concerns for anyone but yourself. This journal writing prompt is really for all those busy mums and dads. Christmas is a good way to focus those memories into specific events, but use anything that will get you writing. I hope you enjoy writing about these memories in your journal.
