A Creative Journal

Something to Be Thankful For

by Heather Goldsmith on November 29th, 2005

Some days you can come to your journal your head filled with negative thoughts. This is where keeping a gratitude journal comes in handy. This style of journal writing has mostly been attributed to Sarah Ban Breathnach with her book Simple Abundance: A Daybook of Comfort and Joy, but you can learn how to do this just by visiting her website.

Keeping a gratitude journal is as simple as that. List five things you’re grateful for right now. To make it easier use the form on Simpleabundance.com. Just list the first five things that come to mind and fill in the form. Press the Show Journal button at the bottom of the page and wait for your journal entry. You can print this and paste it into your journal as one way to save a little time.

You might like to keep a separate journal to express these everyday things you feel grateful for, or simply list them in your regular daily journal. The very act of finding something to be thankful for goes a long way towards diminishing negatives thoughts.

For a deeper explanation on why expressing your gratitude through journal writing is so powerful check out this article.

Please share in the comments section below any thoughts you have on gratitude and writing in your journal.
