Running Out of Ink
It has to be the worst thing that can happen to any dedicated journal writer. You’re sitting there getting stuck into something deep and delicious about your life, recording it all on paper and the ink in your pen decides to give up on you. Either the pen has finally reached the end of its life, or it’s having one of those stuck moments when the ink will no longer flow, no matter how you shake it or rub it furiously between your palms.
I had this happen too many times, so my solution was to always carry more than one pen. I currently have five pens in my little purple suede pencil case. There is also a pencil, a sharpener and a black waterproof ink pen in there. I’d keep more, but the little pencil case would be splitting at the zip.

I’m a devout fountain pen user, but I change pens — and ink colors — daily, so every once in a while, I find that I’ve not refilled my pen, and run out of ink. Like, oh, Tuesday, when I was writing on the train to work, and discovered I’d run out of ink. I keep a bottle of ink (generic blue, a color I rarely use) at work, and reloaded, then switched colors again when I got home.
I carry at least four fountain pens, and somewhere around 6-10 Pilot Hi-Tec G pens in different colors with me, though, just in case….

Yep, you’ve at least got yourself covered. It’s frustrating to run out of ink mid- thought, though. Thanks for sharing your pen habits. ;-)
