A Creative Journal

New Year’s Eve & Journal Writing

by Heather Goldsmith on December 31st, 2005

The last day of the year has finally arrived. It’s a great time to look back over the year and recall the highlights in your journal. Perhaps write a summing-up kind of entry in your entry for today. You could take time to reread some of your journals for the year. Look to see if you achieved your goals, failed them entirely or surpassed all your expectations. What areas did you experience growth, or regression? Did anything change or did nothing really happen at all? Where are you at one year down the track?

At least take the time to think about your year and record an entry reflecting on the events that made up 2005. For me there was the birth of my son, having my mother come to stay from interstate, helping my husband with his course, my eldest son’s problems at school and at home, my daughter’s final year of school, meeting an online friend face-to-face, and beginning this blog. Of course my own entry for today would be a little more involved, but you get the picture.

Perhaps you simply want to end an old journal on this day. Many people do this and have a fresh journal ready for writing their new year. I know I couldn’t stand all those wasted pages. If you’d like to share your end-of-year journal writing thoughts and tips, please do so in the comments section below.
