More on Changes
Change is inevitable, but it doesn’t mean we’re going to like it. One good reason to keep a journal is to note those changes. I’ve mentioned this in an earlier entry, but felt I had something more to add after an incident today.
The city I live in is becoming less like a community as the small roadside stalls close up and disappear. I felt they added to that community atmosphere. I would chat with the stall holders, taking advantage of the cheap wares and the owners were happy to do so. As a city grows some of these things are lost.
Today I discovered my favourite place to buy cheap flowers has also closed. At the time I felt a little disappointed, but later in the day I felt a sense of loss that I found difficult to understand. It wasn’t until I got a chance to sit and write in my journal when I was able to sort out my feelings. It was then I realised that we were losing the face of this place I am so used to. I enjoy the cultural diversity that marks Perth, but I felt sad at losing the touch I had with that family of Italian flower growers who sold their less than perfect blooms to passing traffic.
I didn’t understand that until I worked my emotion through in my journal. I was able to mark the change I felt is happening to my city, contemplate what it might mean for me and those involved in the long run, and come to some understanding that change happens no matter how reluctant I am to know receive them.
