Make Your Own Visual Journal Prompts

by Heather Goldsmith on January 18th, 2006

It’s not difficult to make your own visual journal writing prompts. With easy access to digital technology you can take random photos and print them onto business cards or photo quality paper. About 20 such cards make useful prompts when you’re feeling a bit stuck and shouldn’t take up a lot of room to carry around with you.

If you don’t have a digital camera or don’t trust yourself to take good enough shots you can use the many free stock photos available online. I’m not necessarily endorsing any of the websites in the list below and am aware each has different conditions with their free registration or membership:

There’s plenty more online, these are just a teaser. There are also many other websites where you can purchase photographs, too. I hope you enjoy making your own visual journal prompts. Please share with us any tips you have on this subject in the comments section below.
