Keeping a Special Events Journal
Many people consider Christmas a special event in their lives. Christmas is when they take time out to be with family, to rest, enjoy good food, good times, catch up with friends, and give and receive memorable gifts.
This makes Christmas a perfect time to begin a special events journal. As this event occurs annually you only need to work on your Christmas journal once a year.
There’s no right or wrong way to keep a special events journal. Using Christmas as an example; you might like to include copies of the recipes used to make your family meals, photos of the kids opening presents, shopping lists and menus, receipts for all the Christmas fare you’ve purchased, the cards you receive, a list of all those you send cards to, copies of letters to Santa or any artwork your children created, and wish lists. Really, you can put anything you like in your special events journal.
Perhaps you might enjoy taking the journal everywhere you go for the day and have your family and friends add what the day means to them or whatever other thoughts they might want to include. You could include a handy list of prompts for those reluctant to write. Tera’s Wish has a long list of prompts here, many of them Christmas related, which you could cut down to a handful or one page and use them for your family.
In my opinion the best Christmas prompts are related to memories; future dreams, hopes and wishes; and traditions. Feel free to select Christmas prompts from the list that mean something to you, though.
As you add to your special events journal over the years you’ll build up a wonderful store of memories and moments of the people who matter most to you. Hopefully this will encourage you to continue the special events journal as a new family tradition.
