Keeping a Design Journal
Keeping a design journal is a lot like keeping a visual journal, but your designs make up the visual content. Whatever it is you design, jewellery, paintings, clothing, buildings, whatever, you will find a design journal useful.
Not only can you jot down notes and ideas, you can sketch in rough designs as they pop up in your mind. You can paste in magazine photos and other pictures that inspire you in some way. Really, the uses are endless.
I use this idea for jewellery designs. Most of the time the rough sketch looks only something like the finished project. But that matters little. The idea was caught and I went back at some time and used it. I’m forever jotting down half-formed and partly imagined ideas. These are available for me to use again when I’m feeling a little flat and uninspired.
Do you keep a design journal? What do you design on those pages? Please share in the comments section below.
