A Creative Journal

Journal Alternative

by Heather Goldsmith on February 3rd, 2006

One idea for an alternative journal is for people who really like the idea of keeping a journal, but don’t have the time. If you already have a corkboard or display board you can create your journal with thumb tacks and add whatever happens over the course of a week, a month or a season.

The idea is a simple one and can be taken any way you like. A heading or title higher up or along the side of the board to announce your intentions, goal or purpose, will make the display journal eye-catching. Add photos, invitations, receipts, tickets, or anything from your day that was in some way significant.

Employ collage techniques without the mess of glue and paint or be inspired by scrapbooking products to make your display journal a true work of art. Tear words from magazines and other printed materials to make your entries.

This would be a fun way to get the kids involved if you’re looking for a way to include them or want a group project for the family. Art work and awards can be added and be on show for the entire time the display journal is published.

Perhaps taking a photo or recording the images on a handheld video device when the journal is completed would be one way to keep the work to appreciate later. I hope you have fun with this idea.
