A Creative Journal

Inspired by Music

by Heather Goldsmith on July 9th, 2007

My daughter cannot write in her journal without some kind of music playing. She writes on the way to work on a long bus journey with her MP3 playing randomly through her list of favourites.

For me, it just depends on my mood. There are times I prefer the silence. Yet, the music of life, the hubbub of voices, the plates clanking and the distant drumbeat from some trendy store, as I write in my journal in a cafe really inspires me.

At other times, especially when at home, I might put on a classic CD or something familiar enough to enjoy yet fade out easily as I begin writing in my journal. Yet other times I like to turn the dial on the radio and find something unusual or that I’ve never heard before. I believe this excites the brain cells into creativity. I generally write something fresh or find a new perspective or idea while journal writing to new music.

What about you? Is music an integral part of your journal writing experience or ritual? Or are you feeling a bit jaded about music in general? If you want to find something new, old, or completely different take a look at our new Music Channel right here on b5media.com. There’s even a great competition in which you could win cool music stuff.

Please share your favourite music to journal to in the comments section below.
