A Creative Journal

Friendly Journal

by Heather Goldsmith on July 6th, 2006

Another thing I enjoy about keeping a journal is that it’s a friendly place to hang out. My journal is like my best friend, only better. My journal can never let me down.

My journal will always wait for me to get to it when I need to. Life can get really busy. Tonight I am tired after visiting with my sister-in-law. I usually go to bed and spend a little time writing in my journal. Tonight I will give that usual routine a miss.

That’s okay, though. My journal won’t mind that I didn’t show up. It won’t hound me, or ignore me for leaving it off my list of priorities for the day. It won’t have hurt feelings or any disappointment with me. My journal can wait for me to get around to it.

Earlier this week my daughter had such an experience with a girl she once considered her friend. After being continually let down by this friend my daughter felt sad and a little depressed. She also felt angry. I suggested she write in her journal an unsent letter to the girl about her feelings. Later my daughter was able to speak out what really upset her most about the situation. At that point my daughter’s journal was a better friend than the girl once considered a friend.

I hope you let your journal be a friend for you.
