Freaky Friday #78
Today is Friday and that means it’s Freaky Friday. If you need to know more about this journal writing challenge please read the First Freaky Friday entry.
After reading this news story I thought about the times I came across my children’s diaries or journals. I just couldn’t bring myself to invade their personal space and actually open those very personal pages. Even though the woman in the news story did go ahead and open her daughter’s journal, it’s something I promised my kids I would never do. But, I wonder how surprised this woman was to find her daughter writing fictional tales in her journal? It certainly wasn’t what I would’ve expected if I’d looked at my kid’s diaries.
Spend some time today writing in your journal as if you have stumbled on hidden diaries or journals belonging to your child. What would you do? Return it to the place you found it? Take a quick peep and return it? Or do you settle in for a thorough read? If you decide to read are you surprised by the contents? Is everything as you expected? Imagine this has happened and write about your response and what you think would be inside this journal.

I wouldn’t even open it. What if I found something that I didn’t like?? It’s like opening a can of worms. But I have saved all of letters to Santa lol… they just don’t know it. ;)

I don’t have kids but I have had my journal read by my mother while I was sitting there in front of her. I left it out on the coffee table never expecting my privacy to be invaded when my mother just picked it up and started thumbing through the pages as if she was reading a novel. When I told her she should have asked she got angry at me.

Hi Shirley,
Yeah, this has been my reaction every time I did find my kid’s journals. The contents are definitely their business, not mine. Thanks for your comment. ;-)

Hi Laura,
How awful. Grrr, that just makes me mad for the child you were. I have had my kids share entries from their journals with me, but that is something entirely different to the incident you describe. Thanks for commenting. ;-)
