Freaky Friday #77
Today is Friday. That means it’s Freaky Friday. If you need to know more about this journal writing challenge please read the First Freaky Friday entry.
While reading blogs today I came across this entry on changing your perspective through writing. I loved the comment left on the entry so much I decided to use it for today’s Freaky Friday. Katie Konrath of getFreshminds.com commented that “…we already know what would happen if the Wizard of Oz was told from the Wicked Witch’s perspective…“.
Today spend some time thinking about your favourite story, whatever it might be. A childhood story would be easiest to work with, and one that is completely familiar to you. Rewrite the tale from the villain’s point of view. Make this a fun exercise. Try to get into the motivation of this “bad guy” no matter how awful they are in the story. Find a way to humanise their actions. I hope you have fun with this journal writing challenge. You might even come up with a story you can publish.
Just to get you started try Peter Pan from Captain Hook’s perspective; Little Red Riding Hood from the Wolf’s point of view; Snow White as seen by the Wicked Queen; or Snow White as told by one of the dwarves. I’m sure you’ll have a favourite tale you will want to use.

I love stories that explore a new perspective on an old tale! The Windling/Datlow fairy tale anthologies are wonderful for that.

Hey Heather. I’m glad you enjoyed the blog entry. I think Katie was right on the mark with her answer as well.
Best,

Hi Heather & Geoff,
It was simply too good an idea not to share. I enjoy reading these kinds of stories, too. Thanks for your comments. ;-)
