Freaky Friday #65
Today is Friday, so that means it’s Freaky Friday. If you need to know more about this journal writing prompt please read the First Freaky Friday entry.
Today was an unusual one for me. I visited my eldest son for his 17th birthday. He’s currently staying in a juvenile detention centre. How he got there is a long story, but I won’t go into that now. The woman who guarded us as we sat together in the visiting room made an interesting comment as we left. She said that our visit was the first she had ever enjoyed and that she even had a good laugh.
This got me thinking about family. Our son is basically a good kid, but he’s done some wrong things to end up where he is. Most of the boys he’s staying with claim to have terrible families. He tends to keep his mouth shut about us, as he knows we’ve always been good to him.
Spend some time writing in your journal about your family. Were you raised by strict yet loving parents? Were your parents rebels who just didn’t go for the regular family routine? Once you’ve written about them, swap your family for another that you feel is pretty much an opposite to your own. Write about them as if they are your family. Write about how living with these people may have shaped different attitudes to ones you already hold. Make use of this exercise to examine your life from a different perspective.
