Freaky Friday #40
It’s Friday today and that means Freaky Friday. If you need to know more about this journal writing exercise, please read the First Freaky Friday entry.
One theme I find myself addressing often in my journal is any major problem I might be having at that point in time. It could be a health issue, a disagreement with a family member, a disappointment or any other problem. Problems can take up a lot of time and energy. While spending time writing about them is effective, try the following exercise to really address whatever problem you are currently facing.
This technique was first introduced to me as dialogues. With dialogues you usually write from the point of view of the problem and respond in kind as your real self; just like a conversation. For this exercise, instead of answering immediately in your journal allow the voice of your problem to unload itself in your journal. Give the problem as much room as it needs.
Take time to read over the entry before you finish the journal session. Has your problem revealed a solution or perspective you hadn’t considered? Give yourself some thinking time before responding to your problem in a new journal session; either the next day or when you next open your journal to write.
I hope you find this journal writing exercise useful.
