A Creative Journal

Freaky Friday #19

by Heather Goldsmith on August 4th, 2006

Once again the week winds down to Freaky Friday. If you need to know more about this journal writing challenge please read the First Freaky Friday post.

My daughter has recently been looking for a full-time job since completing study and has been going through the process of applying for jobs and attending interviews. This process heightened my own awareness of preparing for interviews. The wheels have been spinning in my mind to come up with this Freaky Friday prompt.

If you have already been through the interview process it’s a lot easier to imagine how things will go. It doesn’t make the activity any less intimidating, but with this prompt you may just feel better prepared to show your best qualities for your next interview.

Today spend some time writing in your journal as if you are the interviewer for the job you are applying for, or your dream job if you are already employed. There’s a list of standard interview questions to help you out here. You may want to answer some or all of these, as yourself, before attempting this journal writing exercise. Then you can review your answers as the Freaky Friday interviewer.

The point of this exercise is to see yourself as the prospective boss, or interviewer, will see you. This might help you focus on other areas or polish up what you do have to offer your new employer. Let me know if this helps at all or if you have any questions by using the comments section below.

By the way, my daughter received a job offer yesterday. Today she accepted.
