A Creative Journal

Birthday Journal

by Heather Goldsmith on July 10th, 2006

Just so you know, it was my birthday today. I got a chance to do some of the things I like best. One of those was to have a lovely long black coffee in my favourite café, Gelare, while I filled in the last page of my current journal. As a treat I ordered a waffle. The owner gave me special birthday treatment by giving me a large waffle instead of the small one I ordered.

I also did a little shopping for a new journal. My sister-in-law gave me one of those in-store gift cards. I found two journals in Target. A thick spiral-bound one with purple tones on the cover and a hot pink cloth-bound hard cover one. Not bad for $15. I plan to start with the purple one.

I’ll always think of these journals as my birthday journals. That reminds me to make sure I write a good descriptive entry in my journal tomorrow listing everything that happened today. Looking back over the birthdays each year is an interesting exercise.

One lady I know keeps a birthday journal and writes entries for each family member on their birthday each year. It takes a long time to fill a journal, but it’s easy to look back to see what gifts were exchanged, where you ate, what you ate, and other memorable moments on that day each year.

I hope you find this idea useful for your own journal writing.
