Art Supplies

Here are another lot of excellent artsy links for you this week:

Noreen Crone-Findlay designed a charming little Comfie Bear and has uploaded the pattern to Hankering for Yarn.

Layers Upon Layers shows how to go about Making a geometric collage.

Look at Eileen’s New Toy!. Handy for journal keepers, this one.

Mary Emma Allen has Quilting with a St. Patrick’s Day Influence for you.

Tangled Thread show you how to go about using bleach pens to print on fabric, part two.

New member The Creative Bride gives us a tutorial on how to make an embroidered flower brooch.

I’ve added some Visual Delights from Elizabeth Badurina’s website.

I was wondering if you could help me find some information. I have a lot of book binding supplies and want to make journals out of them but I don’t know where I can find boards for the covers of my journals. The boards I have found come in large 3ft by 3ft sheets. Is there a way I can find something easier to handle. I thought with your artsy connections to other blogs you may be able to refer me to someone. Thanks.

If you’re going to wrap your cover, chipboard is a good lightweight hard cover and can be cut with a sharp craft knife.

You can buy 4-ply museum board in an art supply store which is archival and you can also cut using a craft knife.

If you want a really hard cover, buy (thinner) masonite board at a lumber supply store and ask them to cut it for you. They may charge a small fee and you’ll have to buy to whole sheet. But that should be OK ’cause you said you have “a lot” of book binding supplies. LOL.

    Hi Laura,
I think you’ve already had some excellent replies to your question from Eileen. I have used cardboard out of packaging, too. Sometimes these are just the right size or only need a little trimming. I suggest just taking a different look around what you already have. Those sheets of board do sound rather big. A good art supply store will have all kinds of things, so if you visit one I’m sure you’ll find what you need. ;-)
